Acceptance at the Paris conservatory, private acquaintance with Gounod

Wins the Rome price
Because of the missing success of his compositions he makes a living from arrangements and teaching
1870
At the start of the German-French war he joins the Paris national guard
1872
General recognition for the incidental music L´Arlesienne
1875
Failure of his opera Carmen at the debut. Afterwards international acceptance and after his death in 1883 big success of the resumption of the opera.

Dies in Bougival near Paris, three months before Carmen is a big success in Vienna

The flute part is exactly the part of the first flute in the orchestra. Partly the piccolo part is included and in the Carillon a sequence from the first violin is added. Thus you have an orchestral study with piano accompaniment.
One might not believe, that this beautiful piece of music flopped at the premiere.

Childrens games was written by Bizet in 1871. Originally composed for piano with four hands, the piece consists of alltogether twelve pieces. Five of them were arranged for orchestra by the composer himself.

Wurde im Studio aufgenommen, klingt aber nach einem Hallraum wie in der Kirche. Seltsamerweise kommt die Flöte dabei ganz aus der Ferne. Irritiert mich beim Hören. "Romantisch" im Titel ist wohl nicht musikhistorisch gemeint, sonst hätten Gluck und Mozart da nix verloren.
