Born in Betlehem (Pennsylvania). The mother was pianist, the father played piano as a hobby.

Solo debut with the Minnesota orchestra
Educated at Interlochen Arts Academy
1965
Studies with Julius Baker at the Juillard School in New York
1969
One year before the diploma already principal flute of the orchestra Montreal, marriage with the principal bassoonist David Carroll and teacher at the McGill University Montreal
1978
Changing to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra
1984
Principal flute of New York Philharmonics, teaching at Juillard School and at Manhattan School of Music
1998
Vira I. Heinz Lectorship at Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh
Juror in many international flute competitions
2006
Lifetime Achievement Award of the National Flute Association
