On the navy school contact with Balakirew and intensification of his musical studies

He conducted the premiere of his own first symphony during his education at the navy.

Frequent discussions of "The five" consisting of Mussorgskij, Borodin, Balakirew, Cui and Rimskij-Korsakow

Professorship at the conservatory St Petersburg
1873
Leaves navy and is allowed to teach at conservatory without uniform from now on.

Quintet for woodwinds and piano

Musical head of the court band of the tsar and teacher (amongst others Glasunov, Prokofjew und a href="person.php?id=1974&englisch=true">Strawinsky)
1892
In his opera Mlada Rimskij-Korsakow is one of the first composers to use the alto flute as part of the orchestra.
As he knows about his technical insufficiency, he starts a late study of counter point.

Wurde im Studio aufgenommen, klingt aber nach einem Hallraum wie in der Kirche. Seltsamerweise kommt die Flöte dabei ganz aus der Ferne. Irritiert mich beim Hören. "Romantisch" im Titel ist wohl nicht musikhistorisch gemeint, sonst hätten Gluck und Mozart da nix verloren.
