Biography of Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759)

Born in Halle (Saale)
In young years his father doesn´t want him to make music and takes away all musical instruments from the house. A member of the aristocratic family his father serves persuades him to spend lessons for the boy after he had heard him playing organ. The organ lessons in Halle are the only musical education Händel took all his live.

Studies law in Hamburg and plays the organ there.

Violin player at Hamburg opera

Performance of his first operas in Hamburg, formation of St. John Passion
1706
Four year trip through Italy with stays in Florence, Rome and Venice and acquaintance (later friendship) with Alexander and Domenico Scarlatti.
1710
Band master at Hannover court and at the same time suspension for a journey to England.
1712
Move to London, where he lived until the end of his life.
1713
Composition of Te Deum on the occassion of the piece from Utrecht.
1714
Composition of water music on the occassion of the enthronisation of Georg I.
1719
Head of Royal Academy of Music for nine years.

Opening of the theatre of the Academy for italian opera music of which Händel was the artistic head.

Developing blindness, accelerated by wrong therapy through the same doctor, who tried to heal Bach

Dies in London. Buried in Westminster Abbey. In inheritance was transferred from the royals to the British museum.
