Born in Cahors. His father was a hobby clarinet player
First instrumental lessons on a violin
1886
Move to Paris and flute lessons instead of violin on his desire. First teacher is Jules Taffanel, father of Paul Taffanel. He convinces his son to teach Gaubert privat lessons due to his talent.
1890
First lessons with Taffanel, the son.
1893
Studies at the conservatory, where Taffanel has a lectorship
1894
First price of the conservatory and employment at the Opéra and the Société des Concerts.
1896
Taffanel recommends him with the words "..he plays the flute ten times better than me"
1897
Employment at the Parisian Opera, still aided by Taffanel
Beside orchestral and chamber music jobs, studies of composition with Charles Lenepveu and harmonics with Raoul Pugno and Xavier Leroux
Around turn of the century work with Taffanel on the Complete Method

Composition price for a fugue

Second conductor of Société des Concerts

Drafted for military service during World War I, participant in the battle of Verdun and decoration with the Croix de guerre

Publication of the Méthode complète de flûte, which he completed after the death of Taffanel and give-up of flute playing in favor of conducting

Art director of Paris opera and give-up of the flute lectorship
Marcel Moyse was one of his students, Roussel dedicated the fourth mouvement of Joueurs de Flute to him.
