Born Vincent Joseph van Steenkiste (Dorus was his stage name) in Valenciennes. First flute lessons from his father (flutist and composer)

Acceptance at Paris conservatory, being student of Guillou

Second price of the conservatory for flute

First price of the conservatory for flute and flutist at the Theatre de Varietes

Change from the old instrument to the flute by Böhm.

Second flutist of the orchestra at the Grand Opera (besides Tulou)

1843

Co-founder of the Association des Artistes musiciens

1847

Solo flutist of the opera orchestra and foundation of the Société de Musique Classique

1856

Solo flutist of the Societe des Concerts as successor of Tulou

Successor of Tulou at the conservatory

1866

Knight of the Honorary Legion and due to health problems end of his carreer in the opera orchestra and at the conservatory.

Dies in Etratat near Paris
